John talks about the... Big Green EggWhy would someone spend this much money on a BBQ? Well, for me - a number of reasons:Our stainless steel BBQ was less than 2 years old and slowly rusting away to nothing. Should we buy another cheapreplacement to watch it happen all over again? When we cooked on our propane BBQ, it was almost impossible to keep an even heat. Propane added nothing to the flavour of the food - how did those marketing folks convince us to switch from charcoal to propane? The search began. Prices of good models varied from about $750.00 to over $3,000.00! The better ones had longer warranties (specific parts up to 25 years) and promised a more even heat. Then I found the Big Green Egg web site: lifetime guarantee on the whole ceramic cooker and flavour like no propane BBQ could offer. I read hundreds of reviews from EGG owners - everyone loved them! ...more than just a BBQ, it's a smoker, a convection oven + turkey cooker. But what about time and convenience: the web-site said ready in 10 minutes - yeah right! (It's pretty close, I can do it in 15 minutes & it takes that long to heat up a propane BBQ and burn off the grill anyway). So, off we went to the local Big Green Egg dealer and purchased the large size (all the reviews suggested it). That night we had the best steak I've ever had!
